New post -
We welcomed 2025 in true Organic Yarden style, with delicious vegan dishes and a cosy Hogmanay celebration (Mark’s Scottish roots shone brightly!).
Our menu was a proper plant-based feast, featuring hearty vegan Scotch broth, buttery vegan shortbread, and my special vegan sausage rolls. They were a hit, if I do say so myself! (The proof is in the photos, which I’ll share below). I promise to get the recipes up soonÂ
And to help you if you want to try out Veganuary in 2025 we have a FREE Ebook - Easy Peasy Vegan with lots of hints and tips and easy recipes on adding more Plant-based food into your diet. Â

Hogmanay is always a time for reflection, and this year we couldn’t help but think about how far we’ve come—both in our garden and our lives. Mark and I have Veganuary to thank for bringing us together. Back in 2020, I was dabbling in plant-based eating and turned to Twitter for advice on vegan cheese (as you do). A friend suggested I follow Mark, who was sharing easy vegan recipes.
One DM turned into many conversations, and before we knew it, we were chatting daily during the long lockdown days. Mark’s cooking tips kept me sane, and somewhere between vegan lasagna debates and chats about plant-based cakes, we fell in love. Our story even made it into The Guardian! You can read all about it here: The Guardian: How Veganuary Changed Our Lives.
With the New Year comes a fresh start in the garden. January may seem quiet, but there’s plenty to keep us busy. Here are my top tips for this month:
Plan Ahead: Now is the perfect time to map out your planting schedule for the year. Grab your notebooks or, better yet, my Organic Garden Planner for 2025 to make planning a breeze! (More on that below 😉).
Tidy Up: Clear away dead plants and debris from beds to reduce overwintering pests and diseases. A tidy garden now means a healthier one later.
Prepare for Early Crops: If you’ve got a cold frame (or bubble wrap like I do!), start sowing seeds like broad beans or early peas.
Feed Your Garden: Mulch your soil to protect it from frost and feed those hardworking worms below.
Care for Wildlife: Keep bird baths clean and topped up, leave seed heads for the birds, and maybe create a log pile to shelter insects.
Every little task now sets us up for a bountiful growing season later.
Speaking of planning, if you haven’t picked up your Organic Garden Planner for 2025  yet, don’t worry—there’s still time! It’s tailored to Zones 8–9 and packed with tips, a planting calendar, and space to record your gardening journey. Perfect for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike. 🌸
Whether you’re celebrating Hogmanay with vegan treats, diving into Veganuary, or gearing up for a busy gardening season, we hope this year brings you joy, delicious meals, and flourishing plants. Let’s grow together, one day at a time.
💚 Amber-Jane (& Mark)
