October in the Organic Yarden
Welcome to our Organic Grow Guides — a collection of simple, practical guides to help you grow your own fruit, vegetables and herbs organically.
Whether you're growing in a raised bed, allotment, greenhouse, containers, pots or a tiny corner of your garden, these guides are here to help you get started and grow with confidence.
I believe you don't need a huge garden, lots of expensive equipment or years of experience to grow your own food.
You just need a little space, some good soil, a bit of patience and the willingness to give it a go.
Each guide takes you through the basics of growing a particular crop, from getting started right through to harvesting and enjoying what you've grown.

Where appropriate, we'll also look at growing in containers and smaller spaces, because not everyone has acres of land — and you certainly don't need them!
Our guides are based around organic and environmentally friendly gardening, working with nature rather than against it.
That means looking after the soil, encouraging beneficial insects and wildlife, avoiding unnecessary chemicals and making the most of the resources we already have.
I'm also passionate about showing that growing your own food can be fun rather than intimidating.
You will make mistakes.
Plants will occasionally refuse to cooperate.
Something will get eaten by a slug five minutes before you planned to harvest it. 😂
That's gardening!
The important thing is that every season teaches us something new.
If you're completely new to growing vegetables, don't feel you need to grow everything at once.
Pick one crop you really like.
Grow it.
Learn from it.
Then grow another.
Before long, you'll have your own little collection of plants — and hopefully a few homegrown meals to enjoy along the way.
Choose a crop below to learn how to grow it organically from planting to harvest.
Grow it. Learn from it. Harvest it. Eat it.
That's what the Organic Yarden is all about.
